What is the Amazon Request a Review Button?

Last updated: August 6, 2025
Amazon request a review

We all know how challenging it is to get a buyer to leave a review once the sale’s been completed, so how powerful is it that Amazon’s introduced a “Request a Review” button on the Order Details page in Seller Central? If you’re not using feedback software to automate the process for you, then the information we’ve gathered for you should come in really handy.

What Exactly Does the Amazon Request a Review Button Do?

Log in to your Seller Central account and head over to the Order Details page. Once there, in the top right corner, you should see a gray Amazon Request a Review button that Amazon added in 2020. It’s right there beside two other buttons, Print Packing Slip and Refund Order.

But what does this new button do?

When you click the button, you’ll see this message:

Request a Review

We don’t require you to request reviews because our systems already do that at no cost to you. However, if you prefer to request a review for this order, please use this feature instead of asking the customer via email or buyer-seller messaging.

When you use this feature, we will send the customer an email requesting product and seller reviews for this order. We automatically translate review requests to the customer’s preferred language.

Are you sure you want to request a review for this order?

Then, once you select yes, you’ll get this message:

Request a Review

A review will be requested for this order. (Note: We will suppress this request if a review has already been requested for this order).

This triggers Amazon to send a message to the buyer, asking them to leave seller feedback and a product review. And if the buyer doesn’t speak the same language you do, Amazon will automatically translate that request into the buyer’s chosen language.

However, there are a couple of important things to note:

  • If you want to use the Amazon Request a Review button, it has to be 5 to 30 days after the order was delivered.
  • Once you do, you can’t send a follow-up message. However, if you opt not to use the button, you can still ask for feedback and reviews through Amazon’s Buyer-Seller Messaging Service or by using eDesk’s Feedback add-on.
  • Sellers have reported that once they click the button, it disappears from that Order Details page, making it a one-time-only option.
  • You won’t be able to customize the message.
  • Neither buyers nor sellers can respond to the message.

As for what that message looks like, it’s a concise, if relatively generic, message asking buyers to leave a review. Although the text may vary a bit, it’ll essentially say this:

Subject: Did your recent Amazon order meet your expectations? Review it on Amazon

Your opinion matters!

[Seller Name] has asked you to share your experience of your recent order with other Amazon shoppers. Please take a moment to review your recent Amazon purchase.

Rate this item [1-5 stars]

Rate your experience with [Seller Name] [1-5 stars]

N.B. There is no option to personalize the email, so every buyer should receive broadly similar review requests.

Interestingly, not all buyers have reported seeing the Amazon Request a Review button on their Seller Central accounts, meaning that Amazon is rolling out this feature in stages as a way to gauge its effectiveness.

2025 Performance Data and Best Practices

According to the latest data from 2025, using the Amazon Request a Review button has become increasingly effective. eDesk’s data suggests that reviews increase by an average of 52% in the first 15 days when using the Amazon Request a Review button. This dramatic improvement makes it one of the most powerful tools in a seller’s arsenal for building social proof.

The importance of reviews cannot be overstated. For every increase in star rating by 1, there is about a 4-5% increase in conversion rate, with some studies showing that from a star rating of 3 to 5, there was an increase of 12% in conversion rate. When considering that the average Amazon conversion rate for all product types across the platform tends to hover around 9-10% as of May 2025, even small improvements in star ratings can significantly impact your bottom line.

What Does the Request a Review Button Mean for Sellers in 2025?

The landscape has evolved significantly since the button’s introduction. Many sellers now understand its strategic importance within a comprehensive review acquisition strategy. Some have commented that they love the feature, particularly how easy it is to request feedback and reviews without risking policy violations.

However, other sellers initially weren’t as enthusiastic. On the Amazon Services Seller Forums, there were dozens of threads where sellers voiced their frustrations at what seemed like Amazon encroaching even further on their territory. However, by 2025, most successful sellers have integrated this tool into their standard operating procedures.

Amazon hasn’t expressly said this new button is the only way to go, but they’re making subtle pushes, like account suspensions for failing to abide by Communication Guidelines, to encourage adoption. The button provides complete compliance with Amazon’s Terms of Service, making it risk-free compared to traditional messaging approaches.

If you’re opting to contact buyers yourself instead of using the Amazon Request a Review button, then make absolutely sure you’re doing everything correctly:

  • Send only one message asking for a product review or seller feedback, making sure to phrase it in a way that’s just asking for the review or feedback (i.e. you can’t ask for a positive review).
  • Avoid language that incentivizes reviews, asks to update or remove an existing product review, or is marketing-like or promotional in nature (like including your brand logo).
  • Don’t put something like “Important!” in the subject line, as this message isn’t crucial for completing an order.
  • Include a link to where buyers can leave feedback or a review, but don’t include a link to a non-Amazon store or a link to opt out of messaging.
  • Keep the message on topic, especially if you’re sending the message through Seller Central.

Advanced Strategies for 2025

Modern eCommerce strategies demand more sophisticated approaches to review acquisition. While the Amazon Request a Review button provides an excellent foundation, successful sellers are combining it with other tactics:

Automation at Scale: Many high-volume sellers now use Amazon Request a Review button software and Amazon Request a Review button tools to automate the process. These solutions can handle hundreds of orders daily without manual intervention, freeing up time for other business activities.

Strategic Timing: The 5-30 day window isn’t arbitrary. Research shows that requesting reviews 7-10 days after delivery typically yields the highest response rates, as customers have had sufficient time to use the product, but the experience is still fresh in their minds.

Integration with Customer Service: Smart sellers coordinate their review requests with their customer service efforts. By addressing any potential issues before requesting reviews, they significantly improve the likelihood of positive feedback.

Mobile Optimization Consideration: With mobile commerce being a trend that is here to stay, ensure your follow-up customer service (for any issues that arise from reviews) is mobile-optimized, as many customers will be reading and responding to review requests on their phones.

Measuring Success and ROI

Tracking the effectiveness of your Amazon Review Request strategy requires monitoring several key metrics:

  • Review Velocity: How quickly new reviews are coming in after implementing the button
  • Star Rating Improvement: Average rating changes over time
  • Conversion Rate Impact: Sales improvements correlating with review increases
  • Organic Ranking Changes: Position improvements in search results

The data is clear: Amazon Prime members have a conversion rate of 74% whereas non-Prime members typically convert at 13%, but both groups respond well to products with strong review profiles.

Integration with Modern Review Management

While the Amazon Request a Review button is powerful on its own, it works best as part of a comprehensive review management strategy. This includes:

Proactive Issue Resolution: Monitor for negative feedback patterns and address issues before they become reviews. The AI in customer service tools available in 2025 make this easier than ever.

Cross-Platform Review Strategy: Don’t limit yourself to Amazon. Build review acquisition strategies across all marketplaces where you sell, including eBay and other platforms.

Review Response Management: Actively respond to reviews, particularly negative ones. Shoppers who saw brand responses to negative reviews were 186% more likely to purchase than those who didn’t.

Final Thoughts

It can be tricky getting the wording on a feedback request message just right, so if you’re at all unsure and don’t want to risk account suspension, it’s always a good idea to use an Amazon-compliant feedback app such as eDesk Feedback to do the work for you. That way, you never have to worry about the language being wrong or not abiding by Amazon’s rules, and you can rest easy knowing everything is running without you having to stay on top of things manually.

In 2025, the Amazon Request a Review button has proven to be an essential tool for serious Amazon sellers. Combined with modern automation tools and strategic timing, it can significantly boost your review acquisition rates and, consequently, your sales performance.

The key is understanding that this button works best as part of a holistic approach to customer satisfaction and review management, not as a standalone solution.

The evolution from manual review requests to automated, compliant systems represents a major shift in how successful eCommerce businesses operate. By leveraging these tools effectively, sellers can focus on what matters most: delivering exceptional products and customer experiences that naturally lead to positive reviews and sustained business growth.
