Intercom Fin Alternatives for Ecommerce and Marketplaces
)
Disclosure: eDesk publishes this comparison and is one of the tools in it. Every competitor price, billing rule and integration detail comes from that vendor's own pricing or help pages, checked on 2 November 2026. Prices are USD list prices and change often, so confirm them with each vendor before you buy.
When I talk with sellers who answer buyers on Amazon and eBay as well as their own store, the chat widget is rarely what decides their helpdesk. Most guides to Intercom Fin alternatives still compare chat widgets. The harder question is which tool can see the marketplace message, pull the order behind it, and reply before the marketplace deadline runs out.
This guide compares Intercom with four alternatives on the things marketplace sellers actually get billed and judged on: marketplace channels, reply timers, order lookup and the AI pricing unit. For the wider buying checklist, see our ecommerce help desk software guide.
TL;DR
For marketplace sellers, channels narrow the field before price does. Of the five tools here, only one answers Amazon and eBay messages without a separate connector app.
Peak season exposes the pricing model. In our worked example, a ticket-plus-AI meter rose about 4x at triple volume, while the other pricing models rose 2x to 2.6x.
Webstore-only brands have more choice. If nearly all your tickets start in your own chat or inbox, Intercom, Gorgias and Freshdesk are all realistic, and the AI billing definition decides it.
Intercom Fin alternatives compared by price and channel
Shortlist by channel mix first, then by price. Starting prices are the lowest published plan on annual billing; the AI column shows how each vendor bills its AI agent.
Tool | Where it fits | Starting price | AI billing unit | Amazon and eBay messages | Shopify App Store rating |
| Intercom | Webstore and in-app chat, product-led brands | $29 per seat/month list; $19 new-customer offer | $0.99 per Fin outcome | No native connection | 3.7 (18 reviews) |
| eDesk | Sellers on marketplaces plus webstores | $45 per agent/month (Essential) | $0.99 per AI Agent outcome, once per ticket | Native (Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Mirakl and more) | 4.7 (32 reviews) |
| Gorgias | Shopify-first brands | $10/month (Starter, 50 tickets, monthly only) | $0.85 to $1.00 per automated interaction in bundle; $1.50 past it | Through the ChannelReply app | 4.3 (707 reviews) |
| Zendesk | Larger multi-department support teams | $19 per agent/month (Support Team, email); Suite Team $55 adds messaging and live chat | Per automated resolution: $1.50 committed, $2.00 pay-as-you-go | Through third-party connectors such as ChannelReply | 3.2 (95 reviews) |
| Freshdesk | Price-sensitive email-led teams | $19 per agent/month (Growth) | $49 per 100 AI Agent sessions after 500 one-time free sessions | Through third-party connectors such as ChannelReply | No Shopify App Store listing found |
Where the Amazon and eBay column says "connector", budget for that app and test whether replies post back into the marketplace thread, because that is what counts toward the marketplace response metric. Shopify App Store ratings were read on 2 November 2026 and reflect Shopify merchants only.

Why ecommerce sellers look beyond Intercom
Marketplace messages sit outside Intercom. When a seller asked on Intercom's community forum how to answer Amazon messages, an Intercom technical support engineer replied that there is no native Amazon integration. A December 2025 reply in a later thread described routing marketplace messages in through a custom API setup. For a seller whose Amazon buyers expect replies within 24 hours, including weekends and holidays, that gap matters more than any chat feature.
The bill has two meters. Intercom charges per seat and per Fin outcome. A Fin outcome is not only a resolution: Intercom also bills $0.99 when Fin completes a Procedure you configured to hand off to a human. Copilot for agents is $29 per agent per month, and the Pro add-on starts at $100 per month.
Some ecommerce controls also sit on higher tiers. Service level agreements and the multibrand Messenger are listed on Intercom's Expert plan, at $132 per seat per month on annual billing.
None of this makes Intercom weak at ecommerce. Its Shopify app lets agents edit shipping details, issue refunds and create orders inside Intercom, and it connects several Shopify stores to one workspace. If your support lives on your own store, that may be all you need.
The Intercom alternatives compared
eDesk comes first because this is our blog. Its weak points are listed the same way as everyone else's.
eDesk
eDesk is built for sellers who answer buyers on marketplaces and webstores from one inbox.
Price: Essential $45, Growth $99, Professional 129peragentpermonthonannualbilling(55, $125, $159 monthly). AI Agent is included on every plan at $0.99 per outcome. Shopify-only sellers can also buy through the Shopify App Store from $59 per month.
Trial: 14 days, no credit card. The trial runs in Safe Mode, so you can connect channels without sending or storing messages.
What you get: order and customer data in every ticket; SLA timers by marketplace, store or channel (Growth and above); connected stores scale from 1 (Essential) to 5, 10 and unlimited.
Where it falls short: Essential connects one store and has no SLA timers or performance reporting. AI Assist (39peragent)andTranslate(21 per agent) are paid add-ons.
Customer result: MyBoatStore says AI Agent handles 30% of its support across Amazon, eBay and Shopify (published on eDesk's pricing page).
Gorgias
Gorgias suits Shopify-first brands that would rather pay by ticket volume than by seat.
Price and trial: Basic costs 50permonthonannualbilling(60 monthly) for 300 tickets, and Pro costs 300(360) for 2,000 tickets; adding AI Agent on Pro takes the annual price to $471 per month with 190 automated interactions included. You can try it free first, and the Shopify App Store listing shows a 7-day trial.
Strengths: up to 500 user seats on Basic and above; order edits, refunds and cancellations inside Shopify tickets; AI actions such as cancel and discount on Basic and above.
The catch: Gorgias's own billing docs say a ticket fully resolved by AI Agent is charged a ticket fee and an automation fee. Amazon and eBay messages come in through ChannelReply.
Zendesk
Zendesk is the fit for larger teams running support across several departments or regions. Suite Team costs $55 and Suite Professional 115peragentpermonthonannualbilling(69 and $149 monthly). The 14-day trial runs on Suite Professional, so you test the higher tier before choosing.
Suite Team brings omnichannel routing, messaging, telephony and AI agents for messaging and email, and Professional adds skills-based routing. The limit to watch is AI volume: Suite Team includes 5 automated resolutions per agent per month, and anything beyond that is billed at $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go. Marketplace messages need a connector app.
Freshdesk
Freshdesk is a low-cost option for teams that work mostly over email, sharing the lowest seat price here with Zendesk Support Team: Growth is $19, Pro $55 and Enterprise $89 per agent per month on annual billing, with a 14-day trial that opens on Enterprise features. Freddy AI Agent comes with every plan, Pro adds multiple SLA policies, and Pro and Enterprise include 5,000 collaborators.
The catch: Freshworks' own FAQ says the 500 complimentary AI sessions are a one-time offer per account, and its pricing FAQ counts every email AI agent response as a session.
eDesk vs Intercom
Both vendors price AI at $0.99 an outcome, so the real comparison is coverage. The table sets out what each includes, using each vendor's own pricing page.
Intercom | eDesk | |
| AI price | $0.99 per Fin outcome | $0.99 per AI Agent outcome |
| What is billed | Resolutions and completed handoff Procedures, one per conversation | A reply or a real action, once per ticket; no reply, no charge |
| Entry seat price (annual) | 29perseatlist(19 new-customer offer) | $45 per agent |
| Amazon, eBay, Walmart messages | No native connection | Native connections |
| Shopify actions in the inbox | Edit shipping info, refunds, create orders | Order edits inside the ticket |
| Multi-store | Several Shopify stores in one workspace | 1, 5, 10 or unlimited stores by plan |
| SLA timers | Expert plan ($132 per seat) | Growth plan ($99 per agent), by marketplace or channel |
| Agent AI assistant | Copilot, $29 per agent | AI Assist, $39 per agent |
| Trial | 14 days, unlimited Fin outcomes | 14 days in Safe Mode, no card |
Resolution, automation and deflection: what you are paying for
Resolution means the customer's issue ended without a person. Automation means software handled a step, which may or may not end the conversation. Deflection means the customer did not reach a person, which can also mean they gave up. Vendors bill on different versions of these:
Intercom bills an outcome: either a resolution (no further help requested after Fin's last answer) or a configured handoff Procedure.
eDesk bills an outcome when AI Agent answers the customer or takes a real action, such as deciding a return or cancellation and updating the ticket.
Gorgias counts an interaction as automated if the customer needs no human agent within 72 hours.
Zendesk counts an automated resolution as a request resolved by the AI agent without escalation to a human.
Freshdesk counts a session as any unique interaction with the AI agent, whether or not it resolves anything.
Channel coverage
Channel | Intercom | eDesk |
| Email and live chat | Included on all plans | Included on all plans |
| Facebook and Instagram | Fin deploys on both | Included (social messaging) |
| WhatsApp and SMS | Pay-as-you-go channels | WhatsApp integration |
| Phone | Pay-as-you-go | eDesk Talk (listed integration) |
| Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Mirakl | Not native | Native |
| TikTok Shop | Not listed | Integration listed |
Intercom says Fin answers on email, chat, phone, WhatsApp, SMS and social. eDesk says AI Agent 3.0 works on every channel you sell on, which includes the marketplace inbox. The image below shows Amazon tickets from four regional marketplaces in one eDesk queue with their SLA view.

What Intercom alternatives cost at peak season
The pricing model matters most in Q4. This worked example uses published annual list prices and one set of stated assumptions, so you can rerun it with your own numbers.
Assumptions (illustrative, not vendor quotes): five agents; 2,000 tickets in a normal month and 6,000 in a peak month (3x); AI fully handles 30% of tickets in both months; every ticket gets a reply; seat counts stay the same. Plans used: each vendor's entry plan with AI, except Zendesk Suite Team (the first plan with messaging and live chat) and eDesk Growth (the first plan with more than one store and SLA timers).
Tool and plan | How the bill is built | Normal month | Peak month | Change |
| eDesk Growth | 5 x $99 + $0.99 per outcome | $1,089 | $2,277 | 2.1x |
| Intercom Essential | 5 x $29 + $0.99 per outcome | $739 | $1,927 | 2.6x |
| Zendesk Suite Team | 5 x $55 + $1.50 per resolution past 25 included | 1,138(1,425 pay-as-you-go) | 2,938(3,825 pay-as-you-go) | 2.6x |
| Gorgias Pro with AI Agent | $471 + $0.36 per ticket past 2,000 + $1.50 per interaction past 190 | $1,086 | $4,326 | 4.0x |
| Freshdesk Pro | 5 x $55 + $49 per 100 sessions (free 500 already used) | $569 | $1,157 | 2.0x |
On list price alone, Freshdesk and Intercom are the cheapest here, and eDesk sits mid-pack. The table leaves out two costs that change the picture for marketplace sellers: the connector app Intercom, Zendesk, Gorgias and Freshdesk need for Amazon and eBay messages, and Intercom's Expert plan if you need SLAs. Freshdesk's figure also assumes chat; on email, every AI response counts as a session.
When Intercom is the better fit, and when eDesk is
Intercom is the better fit if:
Most conversations start in your website or app chat.
You sell only on your own store and want in-app tours, banners and outbound messages.
You want Fin on top of a helpdesk you already use, such as Salesforce or Zendesk.
eDesk is the better fit if:
A large share of tickets come from Amazon, eBay, Walmart or other marketplaces.
Missing a marketplace reply deadline puts account health at risk.
You run several stores and want each ticket to show the order behind it.
How to evaluate an Intercom alternative
Test your top five intents with real orders. Use last month's tickets for order status, returns and cancellations, and check the answer uses live order data.
Check integration depth. Confirm two-way sync, that replies post back to the marketplace thread, and that refunds and cancellations work from the ticket.
Read the billing definition. Ask what counts as an outcome, resolution or session, and whether handoffs are billed.
Stress-test peak volume. Rerun the cost table above with your Q4 ticket count.
Run AI in a safe mode first. Use a trial or draft mode before AI replies to real customers.
Switching from Intercom
Export what you need to keep: conversation history, saved replies, tags and customer records.
Rebuild entry points: website chat widget, contact forms, help center links and email forwarding.
Connect marketplaces and stores, then let tickets flow in without replying during the trial.
Roll out in phases: one channel first, then the rest once routing and SLA timers are correct.
Watch four numbers for the first month: first response time, SLA compliance per marketplace, AI outcomes and reopen rate. Review them weekly.
Where to start
List where your tickets come from last month, by channel. If most start in your own chat widget, Intercom and the webstore tools above are close, and price per outcome decides it.
If a real share arrive through Amazon, eBay or Walmart, shortlist tools that answer those messages natively and track each marketplace's reply clock. Start for free and connect your channels in Safe Mode to see it with your own tickets.
Frequently asked questions
1. What are the best Intercom alternatives?
It depends on where your tickets come from. For marketplace sellers, eDesk connects Amazon, eBay and Walmart natively. For Shopify-first brands, Gorgias has 707 Shopify App Store reviews, the most of the tools here. Zendesk suits larger multi-department teams, and Freshdesk Growth and Zendesk Support Team share the lowest seat price here at $19 per agent.
2. What are the top alternatives to Intercom Fin AI?
eDesk AI Agent ($0.99 per outcome), Gorgias AI Agent ($0.85 to $1.00 per automated interaction in plan bundles), Zendesk AI agents ($1.50 to $2.00 per automated resolution) and Freshdesk Freddy AI Agent ($49 per 100 sessions). Compare the billing definitions, not just the price.
3. Are there Intercom alternatives for startups?
